Last year, a project by ZARARA gas and oil came to Lamu and harvested gas in Pate island that was closely monitored by community based organizations in Lamu with the help of NEMA to make sure that it was well done without affecting the area. The oil and gas company helped restore the flora and fauna of the mining location by restoring coconut trees and planting fruits such as watermelon

The training taught that people should be open economic activities such as mining as they bring in revenue to the country and county but, the local authorities should do their due diligence the monito the activities to ensure no laws are broken. The locals should also enforce land restoration after the activities.

The organization is working hard to restore the mangrove plants that were cut during the starting of the LAPSSET project that really affected marine lives. There is also a follow up to compensate fishermen displaced by the project
