Uraia Trust is a national organization that supports democratic transformation processes in Kenya.  Its mission is “To provide quality civic education and empower Kenyans to exercise their civic duty in order to realize their constitutional aspirations.”  

 Uraia’s work is informed by its four Key Focus Areas (KFAs), which are:

CALL TITLE: STRENGTHENING THE GOVERNANCE, MANAGEMENT AND PROGRAMMING CAPACITIES OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS (WROs) IN KENYA

Uraia is implementing its Strategic Framework for the period 2021-2025, which draws on lessons from previous strategic plans. The overall goal of the new strategic framework is “an empowered, engaged, and values-based citizenry”, and three outcome areas have been identified namely: 

 

Outcome 1: An effective ecosystem for continuous quality civic education and engagement.

 

Outcome 2: Increased responsiveness and accountability in Kenya’s public spaces.  

 

Outcome 3: The foundation for a national culture of Utu established.

 

 

With funding from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) through Care Kenya, Uraia Trust, and three other principal partners: The Centre for Rights Education (CREAW), Community Advocacy and Awareness (CRAWN) Trust, and Urgent Action Fund Africa (UAF Africa) are implementing a five-year programme titled The Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Programme. The Programme’s goal is to strengthen the institutional capacities and activities of county, regional, and national Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) seeking to empower women and girls, protect their rights, and achieve gender equality. These include organizations working with minority groups of women and girls.
