About CREAW

Founded in 1999, the Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) is a national feminist organization driving change for equal societies in Kenya. We place women and girls at the center of our actions to end inequality and realize social justice. We question political, social, economic, legal, cultural and religious structures that silences the voices and agency of women and girls in Kenya.
Since establishment, our mission has been to champion, expand and actualize the rights of women and girls for social justice. CREAW envisions a just society where women and girls enjoy full rights and live in dignity. We believe in the equality of rights, with empowerment and justice made available for every woman and girl. We stand for, ensuring women and girls have Power, Voice and Agency.
Our programs have over the years focused on challenging practices that undermine equity, equality, and constitutionalism; promoting women’s participation in decision making; and deepening the ideology and philosophy of women’s empowerment. CREAW also supports movement building to advance the agenda for social transformation, besides preventing, mitigating and responding to Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG). As a catalyst of change, CREAW supports strategic and innovative initiatives, and collaborates with progressive thinkers, irrespective of gender, age, sexual orientation, race, class, education or affiliations to reach its ideals.
CREAW’s Track record spans over 20 years working in nine counties namely: Nairobi, Kilifi, Meru, Narok, Isiolo, Kitui, Nyeri, Bomet and Kericho.
Specifically, our work is carried through four thematic pathways of change:
(1) Elimination of economic and social-cultural discrimination.
(2) Ending all forms of violence against women and girls;
(3) Promoting effective participation of women and girls; and
(4) Ensuring universal access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
